The One Percent Solution
Scripture
calls us to tithe. Are you aware that a tithe is 10% of your annual income?
This does not mean 10% to the parish, another 10% to the diocese, and
another 10% to other charities. It means 10 percent overall to one or
various charities. For example, the Diocese of San Diego always encourages
at least 1% to the Annual Catholic Appeal, while our parish encourages
up to 4%. Often the Missions Office will ask for 1%. At this point, you
would be up to 6%. What about the rest? The other 4% could be divided
among other charities, such as St. Vincent de Paul Village, Friends of
the Arts, National AIDS Foundation, Literacy, etc.
From
the Parish perspective, we encourage all Catholics to give at least 1%
of their annual income to the parish. In addition, they are strongly encouraged
to raise their livel of giving each quarter (every three months) until
they have achieved 4% of their annual salary. At the beginning of each
quarter (January through March, April through June, July through September,
October through December), you may want to follow this excercise:
Meditate
on one or all of the following readings

Ask
yourself the following questions
Was
I able to offer at least 1%
of my annual income to the parish?
Would I be able to raise my contribution
by an additional 1 % for the next three months?
How has this act of giving been
a personal blessing to me?
CALCULATE YOUR CHARITY: If you
are a parishioner of St. Rose of Lima, consider becoming an active financial
contributor to this community. Try to stay above 1% in your weekly Sunday
giving.
Track
your charitable giving by calculating your Annual, Monthly, or Weekly
salary and multiplying that by 1%, 2%, 3%, etc, up to 10%. Press the calculator
to discover how much you are giving to church and charity based on your
annual income.
