Daniel’s Den Preschool is part of St. Rose of Lima School located in Chula Vista and under the supervision of the Diocese of San Diego. It serves students in grades Preschool-8. St. Rose of Lima School opened in 1948 under the direction of the Benedictine Sisters.
Our preschool is staffed by lay faculty members who work to share their rich faith-life with the children. The preschool staff includes two full-time teachers and several part-time instructional aides.
Daniel’s Den Preschool offers a wide variety of learning experiences within the context of a Catholic faith environment. Activities are structured to help children grow spiritually, emotionally, socially and academically.
The preschool’s philosophy allows each child to explore the world at his/her own pace. The core curriculum areas of religion, language, art, math, science and other readiness areas are learned through many “hands on” experiences. Teacher guided learning centers are set up within the classroom and playground to allow these tactile activities and encourage each child’s individual growth.

Schoolwide Learning Expectations
A St. Rose of Lima student is a:
- knowledgeable, prayerful, spirit-filled CATHOLIC
- confident, competent, life-long LEARNER
- articulate, effective, poised COMMUNICATOR
- responsible, loyal, active COMMUNITY MEMBER
- accepting, responding, globally-aware STEWARD who then becomes a grateful, hopeful, peace-loving CITITZEN
Our goal for each child is to become acquainted with the classroom setting and a structured environment. By the time children leave the preschool he/she will be comfortable with a school routine, which will aid in the transition into kindergarten.
Daily prayer is a most important aspect of the classroom routine.
Children will have the opportunity to attend prayer service. Our parent community is very active in promoting the Catholicity of the school through a Christian Action Program. Parents for each grade facilitate Advent and Lenten Mornings of Prayer and age appropriate community wide service projects.
