Counseling Services

Couples should never have to deal with their problems on their own when their are trained professionals available to help them when their marriage is suffering. This year, resolve to improve the important relationships in your life. The church offers three counseling sessions for married couples and families, at no charge. Typical issues addressed include: enhancing communication, managing anger/stress, and negotiating family rules and responsibilities. Bring more peace and joy into your life this year. When there is Domestic Violence

We have often heard that anger is a feeling. Anger is neither good nor bad. However, all feelings must be managed. If you believe that you have an anger problem and that it is out of control, please call the parish office for an appointment with our priest or deacon.

Divorce

Recent studies show that the number of Catholic divorces in the United States is at roughly 21%. This is according to the Barna Research Group which interviewed 3,854 adults from the 48 continental states, with a margin of error of plus or minus 2 percent.

Of major Christian denominations, Catholics and Lutherans have the lowest divorce rate at 21 percent, according to Barna.

It is important to know that . . .
·Divorced Catholics are not ex-communicated.
·Divorced Catholics may receive Eucharist and Reconciliation.

·Divorced Catholics are full members of the Catholic church and can participate fully in the life of the church.
·Children will not be illegitimate if a divorced Catholic is granted an annulment.

·Before a divorced Catholic can remarry in the Church, an annulment must be granted on the previous marriage. For information on annulments, please call the parish office at 427-0230 or email us at parish@strosecv.com

Annulment in the Catholic Church

Jesus said, “What God has joined, we must not divide.” For that reason the Catholic Church holds marriage as a sacred institution. It is not to be entered into or abandoned lightly. As a result, the Church does not grant divorce. However, the Church recognizes that some marriages were not valid in the first place and that there may be grounds for annulment.
