Butter with Chocolate Ice Cream - Get the Scoop (3 rd & H, Chula
Vista): I
have imagined the Heavenly Banquet and wondered if ice-cream would
ever be on the menu. Thankfully, a new store has opened up and I
won't have to wait. Just the Scoop (across the street from the Church)
delivers some of the best ice cream. I tried their Peanut Butter
and Chocolate (made on location). It is to die for. I know! It's
not heaven. But, it's close! My Review: Receives a Blessing
All American Breakfast- Country Waffle,
Chula Vista: This is my second review for this wonderful
restaurant. Country Waffles, across the street from the church,
offers a great selection of food; including their All American Breakfast
- Two eggs, bacon or sausage, toast, and waffles or pancakes. They
are willing to exchange the waffles or pancakes for another side
(tomato, for example). Receives a Blessing!
Squid Steak Sandwich - Anthony's
Fish Grotto in Chula Vista: This is one of my favorite
sandwiches from way back in my seminary days. I am happy to say
that Anthony's still carries it, but with a few changes. The present
style includes cheese and no avocados. (Normally I like cheese,
but not with calamari). The current sandwich receives a (Fair)
Could use a Prayer. Thankfully, Anthony's is willing to
accommodate and will make it almost any way you like. Here is how
I order my Squid Steak Sandwich: On toasted sourdough bread, with
avocados, and hold the cheese. With these few changes, I rate this
sandwich:(Good) Receives a Blessing.
Strip Steak - Tango Grill:
I can count on one hand the number of fine dining venues in the
South Bay area. I was introduced to one of these last year. Tango
Grill, on Broadway in Chula Vista, is easy to miss. However, this
little restaurant offers a marvelous menu of Argentinean food. One
of my favorite menu items is the Strip Steak. Tango Grill recommends
"medium" for this thin cut of steak. Served with freshly
baked bread and a side choice of vegetable, I rate this meal:(Good)
Receives a Blessing.
Tuna Sandwich - Country Waffle, Chula Vista:
Yes! I know! How can you give a high score or low rating
for a tuna sandwich? It's simple. Just visit Country Waffle across
the street from our church (corner of 3rd and H) and see that the
atmosphere and the friendly service make this ordinary sandwich
taste extraordinarily good. My rating for this meal: Receives
a Blessing.
Lasagna-
La Bella, Chula Vista: If you want good ol' American-Italian
lasagna, just go to La Bella's on 3rd Street in Chula Vista. This
long-time, family owned, business is a favorite among locals. The
do deliver. A recent event at our parish proved that their delivery
methods are efficient. La Bella's a is a great place for lunch for
downtown workers and dinner for the whole family. Receives
a Blessing
The #1 Meal- Wienerschnitzel: Junk food?
Hey! Don't knock it until you've tried it. Two hotdogs, smothered
with their famous chili (now available at a supermarket near you)
with fries and a diet coke (Diet? I'm trying to watch my figure).
Life can hardly get better. My rating for this meal: Receives
a Blessing.
Infused-Basil
Halibut - Red Lobster (3rd and F): You don't have to go
get lobster at Red Lobster. You can order something else. I did
... and it was goooood! Try this fish and a side salad for lunch.
You'll go away smiling! Receives a Blessing
Chicken
and Caesar Salad - Marie Callenders (3rd & F): If you
are looking for a great salad (a huge salad), I've found the perfect
spot. Go to Marie Callenders on 3rd and F in Chula Vista. They''
throw in their famous bread on the side. It's a quick and easy lunch
meal and in a nice setting. Receives a blessing
Prime Rib - Cafe La Maze (National City):
A friend and I had to wait 45 minutes before being served
last Monday at a local steakhouse (very popular that evening). He
suggested Cafe La Maze in National City Instead. Cafe La Maze has
been restored after a kitchen fire and is running well. We were
in a steak mood, so we ordered prime rib. Wow! Did we get a meal?
Let's just say that that very tasty and very large chunk of steak
could hold me through the forty days of lent: Receives a
Blessing.
Pasta
and Meatballs - Italian Catholic Federation: If you missed
the last Pasta and Meatball dinner offered by the ICF (Italian Catholic
Federation), all is forgiven. However, don't miss the next one or
this Italian guy named Vito and his brother Tony may just pay you
a visit. You know what I mean? Actually, the dinner was fantastic.
This meal: Receives a Blessing.
Ravioli D'aragosta - Buon Giorno, Bonita:
If you like lobster - anything lobster - you'll love this!
Lobster Ravioli with asparagus, cherry tomato brandy and lobster
cream sauce. I savored every bite. Receives a Blessing!
Shrimp
Quesadilla - LOEWS CORONADO BAY RESORT (4000 Coronado Bay Rd): If
you haven't toured the Silver Strand lately, here's a reason to
get you out there. Loews Coronado Resort offers a wonderful menu
with great food. I tried the shrimp quesadilla. I loved every bite.
I also enjoyed the resort atmosphere with the bleached wood walls
and fantastic views of the bay. Speaking of Loews, we are planning
our Mama Dee Charity dinner at this great venue on November 21st.
All proceeds from this charitable event will go toward our Emergency
Assistance program which feeds the poor of our neighborhoods and
just south of the boarder. For more information on how you can participate
in this worthy event, go here. My Review: Receives a Blessing
Soup Kitchen - Youth Group: Our Lenten
Soup Kitchen is open and the youth of our parish are ready to serve
you. Each week there is a variety of soups with plenty of bread.
I do enjoy soup and our soup kitchen, I must admit, is the best
Chula Vista has to offer. It's Free! However, if you want to make
a simple donation toward a worthy charity, I guarantee that your
heart and stomach will be satisfied. My review: Receives
a Blessing.
Saint
Joseph's Table - Italian Catholic Federation: Don't take
my word for it. Take the word of those who attended last Sunday's
St. Joseph's Table. They'll tell you that you missed the best Italian
food served in San Diego last weekend. The ICF never disappoints!
Wow! I can't wait for next year's spread. My rating: Receives
a Blessing!
Salmon Wrap - D'Lish Gourmet Pasta and Pizza:
This is a healthy meal and worth the price. You can find
this great meal at Terra Nova in Chula Vista. If you want good italian
food (American style, of course), you wont be disappointed. My Review
for the Salmon Wrap and D'Lish: Receives a Blessing.
Orange
Chicken - China L. Cafe Express: It is often hard to find
fresh take out, but this Chinese restaurant on Third street in Chula
Vista (across from our school) hasn't disappointed me yet. I am
always served healthy portions and at a great price. My favorite
item is their Orange Chicken. It's always fresh! My rating:
Receives a Blessing!
Potato
Salad - Captain's Galley (J Street Marina): I know! It
seems crazy to have a review about potato salad. But, what can I
say? The entire potato is served - chopped of course - skin and
all. They even add a little kick to it with some spices. It is good!
Receives a Blessing!
Fish
Tacos - Rubio's, Tierra del Rey, Chula Vista: In
my opinion, the best fish tacos are found here. Add to that, the
very friendly and rapid service, nice atmosphere for a take-out
restaurant, and very reasonable prices, and you have yourself a
fine dining experience. Receives a Blessing!
Spicy Chicken Sandwich and Fries - Wendy's:
I've tried Jack-in-the-Box and enjoyed their Spicy Chicken meal.
Recently, I found this delight at Wendy's. The sandwich was excellent.
Certainly good enough to bring me back. The fries, on the other
hand, were not as fresh as other restaurants. Two Reviews for this
meal: Chicken Sandwich -Receives a Blessing. Fries
- Need a Prayer
Carne
Asada Burrito - Los Panchos Taco Shop (H St): This very
large burrito is more than a meal ... even for me! Try their salsa,
too! Not too hot, but just enough kick to make you want to come
back for more. Receives a Blessing.
Fish
Tacos - Wanna Taco (Broadway): Its hard to beat the fish
tacos at Rubio's. However, the "make it your own way"
style at Wanna Taco in Chula Vista is great. I highly recommend
this meal. Receives a Blessing
